The fourth-grade class at Terryville Elementary School in the Comsewogue School District came together for a sweet cause last month, raising $2,039 to support pediatric cancer awareness through a lively fundraiser benefiting the Daniella Conte Foundation.
In an unforgettable event organized by teachers Rebecca Atardi and Dana Urbinati, 25 dedicated educators volunteered to become "human sundaes." Students eagerly purchased tickets and cast their votes by placing them in the teachers' buckets, vying to see who would be covered in sundae toppings during a high-energy celebration in the school gym. The cherry on top was the reveal that Superintendent Dr. Quinn was the event’s mystery volunteer, to the delight of students and staff alike.
“We’re so inspired by their big hearts and even bigger imagination,” said Terryville Elementary School Principal Annemarie Sciove. “These students reminded us that no act of generosity is too small—and no one is too young to make a difference. A special thank you to Ms. Attardi and Ms. Urbinati who made this event possible and instilled a passion for helping others in her students.”
The initiative exceeded expectations, surpassing the original fundraising goal of $1,500. The top fundraisers were teachers Rebecca Attardi, Katie Hughes and Geriann McNamee who were also turned into human sundaes in recognition of their outstanding contributions.
The fundraiser not only brought joy to the school community but also emphasized the importance of compassion, teamwork, and making a difference one scoop at a time.
The fundraiser was part of Terryville’s efforts for Joe’s Day of Service, through which all Comsewogue schools honor the legacy of the late Superintendent Dr. Joe Rella with a service project committed to compassion, philanthropy and mutual support.
